DNR ATV Safety Certification, presented by Polk County Sheriff’s Department
The purpose of the Wisconsin ATV Safety Training Program is to promote responsible, safe, and ethical ATV use, with the goal of reducing the potential for ATV accidents, injuries and fatalities, and the conflict between ATV’ers, land owners and other resource users.
DATES/TIME: June 9th, 10th, & 11th, 1-4pm LOCATION: Osceola Intermediate School - Media Room (145) WI DNR COURSE FEE: $10
- Participants must be in attendance at all three classes.
- All ATV’ers who ride on public riding areas, who are at least age 12 and who were born on or after January 1, 1988 must have completed a safety certification course.
- For children under 12 years of age, the certificate does not become valid until the child reaches 12 years of age.
- Students with special needs must contact the instructor at least 2 weeks in advance of the course to request special accommodations.
To register for this course, obtain a WI DNR Customer ID and register online at gowild.wi.gov .
- Then, click on the Safety Education tab at the top of the screen. Select Polk County and Osceola.
- All WI Recreational Safety Students are required to obtain a WI DNR Customer ID number before the completion of any Recreational Safety Class and will also be required to provide their WI DNR Customer ID Number, along with their personal information to the instructor.

DNR Boater Safety Certification, presented by Polk County Sheriff’s Department
This classroom training teaches the safe handling and operation of boats and watercraft (e.g. jet ski) and will cover the topics of water & boating safety equipment, rules and ethics of the water, and navigation.
DATES/TIME: June 16th, 17th, & 18th, 1-4pm LOCATION: Osceola Intermediate School - Media Room (145) WI DNR COURSE FEE: $10
- Participants must be in attendance at all three classes.
- If you were born after 1989, you are required to complete a boating safety course to legally operate a motorized boat or personal watercraft (PWC). Anyone is eligible to take a boating safety class and receive a safety education completion certificate, although the certificate is not valid for a child until he or she is 12 years old.
- Children ages 10 and 11 may operate a motorized boat or watercraft only under the close supervision of an on-board and sober parent, guardian, or a person at least 18 years old who is designated by the parent or guardian and the parent, guardian, or designated adult holds a valid boating safety certificate or was born before January 1, 1989.
- Children aged 12 years and older that have completed the Boater Safety course can operate a motorized boat or watercraft solo.
- In addition to being the law, taking a boating safety class can save your life: 4 of 5 people who die in boating accidents on Wisconsin's waters every year haven't had such formal training.
