Please review full Food Service Policy 8500 The District Food Service plan allows students to eat breakfast, lunch, and some ala carte items, having their automated account debited for each meal or purchase once parents have deposited funds in the family’s food-service account. A positive balance must be maintained. To assist with account management, families will be notified by an automated phone system when their account declines to $10.00 dollars for paid meal plans and $5.00 for Reduced eligible meal plans. Once a family account becomes negative, automated phone notifications will continue until the account becomes positive. Providing meals for students is ultimately a parent/guardian responsibility. Allowing charges to continuously accumulate can lead to financial losses to the school food-service program and is unfair to the households that do pay for their meals. If unpaid charges become excessive -$25.00 or if the parent/legal guardian refuses to pay after being contacted, the District reserves the right to take steps deemed necessary to collect charges owed and to prevent further loss to the food-service program. These actions could include: providing an alternate meal, initiation of collection proceedings, revocation of the household’s meal charging privileges, and/or notifying the social services agencies of child neglect.
